Texas-Style Rattlesnake Cheesy Jalapeño Bites Recipe

What Are Texas Rattlesnake Bites?

Texas Rattlesnake Bites sound quite horrid at first, but they are not some sort of exotic food actually made of the venomous, predatory, and generally scary rattlesnakes. Its name comes from their fiery bite, which is actually a smart way of describing its taste experience and attracting customers with such an intriguing name.

Rattlesnake bites are a mix of complementary ingredients, mostly jalapeños, tucked inside a crunchy, cheesy ball. They are addictive enough as appetizers to make you full before the entree even arrives, or as bar snacks when you’re craving something aggressively spicy.

This Texas Rattlesnake Bites recipe features a combination of juicy chicken pieces wrapped in melty cheese with a hint of fresh pepper crunch and a pop of heat that hits at the back of your tongue. Talk about perfect combination!

How to Make Texas Roadhouse Rattlesnake Bites at Home

The good news? This Texas Roadhouse specialty is such a breeze to make.

Dice up your chicken, peppers, and jalapeños, then mix them with cream cheese, cheddar, garlic powder, and onion powder. Once you roll them into small balls, freeze them. This little step keeps everything together when you fry later. You don’t want it falling apart when it hits the hot oil and turn into a soup of oil mess.

After freezing, roll each frozen ball in flour, dunk it into beaten eggs, and coat it with a mix of smoked paprika, cayenne, and Krispers breadcrumbs, this Japanese-style breadcrumbs (or panko) is key to getting the perfect crunch that’s light, airy, and satisfying. If you can’t find it in your local grocery, you can buy them conveniently online from Suy Sing on Iskaparate! Now, just fry them in hot oil for a few minutes until they’re golden brown and crisp all over. Then you’ll have the cheesy, spicy bites of your dreams.
